Chaplain Allen Thyssen

The Chaplain’s Corner seeks to deliver Christ centered transformation by providing spiritual support to others around the world by “coming along side” via the Internet in the spirit of II Corinthians 1:1-4. It is a “virtual bridge.”

Originally trained as a chemical engineer, Allen enjoyed a long career with an international petroleum company. He transitioned into the role of Chaplain after the cancer-related death of his first wife.  Then, he served on the Board of Regents at NationsUniversity (www.nationsu.edu) for 15 years.  Eventually, the University approached him to become its first Chaplain. This entailed the creation of an entirely new way of delivering chaplaincy services, i.e. via the Internet.

Family

Allen and his wife, Judy, have now been married for twenty-eight years. They live in Sugar Land, Texas, and have three children and five grandchildren. In his free time,  He enjoys gardening, kayaking, and back packing trips to local State parks in his AirStream trailer fondly named “Mobile Hermitage”.  He is a Lay Cistercian of Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky (www.laycisterciansofgethsemani.org).  And he also plays the euphonium horn!

Allen’s Personal Theme:

– You don’t have to make the journey alone. (II Corinthians 1:3-4)
– You can get no closer to God than you are right now. (Ephesians 4:6)
– God’s presence in your life will affect everything you come in contact with.
– There is hope in times of spiritual distress.
